Ruth’s advice to keep practice sessions short but regular has been particularly effective and the tips for making practice fun have helped my son stay motivated, even when learning a particularly tricky piece. Learning scales has also been much easier than I expected. Ruth notates scales in an easy to read format which I am sure explains why he has learnt them more quickly and easily than I ever did!

My daughter has been having violin lessons with Ruth now for nearly a year and a half, having previously had disjointed and lacklustre lessons at school. Ruth has transformed Darcey's technique and performance skills and given Darcey confidence and enthusiasm to push herself to show her growing skills off regularly at school in concerts, assemblies & even talent shows. Ruth's attention to detail extends beyond her lessons always providing invaluable tips and support for practice at home, everything from simply practicing in front of the mirror (to improve arm and bowing positions); to constructing a scale wheel as a fun way of tackling scales in bit size portions. I never hesitate in recommending Ruth and her frequent theory workshops are also an invaluable additional support to her instrumental lessons.
